MK Stalin meets PM Modi, seeks release of pending funds for Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, urging swift action on three key issues, including the release of pending funds for the state’s welfare schemes. He also sought the Centre’s cooperation for the second phase of the Chennai Metro.
“It was a courtesy call with PM Modi… I have made 3 important requests. I have given a detailed memorandum to him listing out our request… Just like how the Union and State governments together implemented the first phase of Chennai Metro, similarly, the second phase of Chennai Metro also should be implemented. That is our stand,” CM Stalin said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister also requested PM Modi to personally intervene to protect the interests of Tamil fishermen.
Earlier this week, Stalin raised the issue with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and asked to address the hefty fines being imposed on Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy. Recently, 37 fishermen from Tamil Nadu were detained, and three boats were seized.
After meeting Modi, the DMK president also met Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. A mega opposition rally has been planned on September 28 in Kancheepuram. Stalin arrived in New Delhi on Thursday evening and received a warm welcome from DMK leaders, including MPs TR Baalu, Tiruchi Siva, Dayanidhi Maran, K Kanimozhi, and T Sumathy, among others.
